Zoloti Vorota - World's deepest Metro

Updated: Sep 30, 2018

Getting down and back up the train platforms was a real exercise.

I am a big admirer of trains, subways, and the like (One thing that my country really lacks of) so whenever I go somewhere, I never fail to take a photo at the train stations that I visit. When I got a chance to visit Kyiv, Ukraine about a year ago, I was really fascinated at how deep the metro is and upon doing some research, Zoloti Vorota is one of the must-see's in Kyiv.

I think I have more than 10 photos of the tunnel with the man in front of me because this escalator goes down really deep.

I really can't remember how deep it is but I heard that one of the reasons why they made it deep is because it is also used as a bomb shelter.

But after you get down the looooong escalator ride, you get to see this beauty.

Since I made it all the way down, I just took the train and went to random stations. My Ukrainian friends told me that it's unsafe to ride the trains alone, but oh well, it was worth taking the risk.

Anyway, if you are going to ride the metro, I suggest that you take someone local with you or learn how to purchase metro tickets in the local language. I had a hard time purchasing the metro tickets because the people at the ticketing counter couldn't speak English.

Also, there are a lot of places to see in Kyiv!! I'll post more about it later.
